GRAMMY Nominees Wilco & Popeye Duke It Out In “Dawned on Me” [Video]

Photos: Wilco At Civic Opera HouseThis week, Chicago hometown heroes teamed up with King Features to create & crash a “Popeye” cartoon strip, a precursor to this animated video for Wilco’s song “Dawned on Me”, from the GRAMMY-nominated record, The Whole Love.

This collaboration presents the first hand-drawn Popeye cartoon in more than 30 years.

There’s also an accompanying website, wilcospinach.com, that teases Wilco-brand spinach “coming soon.”

Last.fm’s Best Of 2011 Has Arrived!

The data is in and all the plays have been counted, but who was (according to Last.fm) the biggest artist of 2011?

Is Adele the most popular singer in the world, or did Gaga return to the top spot? What about the rockers; how do Radiohead and Foo Fighters stack up? Find out with Last.fm’s Best of 2011.

Last.fm’s annual countdown has become a music industry fixture. While most charts are based on sales figures and airplay, Last.fm’s chart is based only on the music that fans have actually played. In 2009 Lady Gaga took the top spot, followed by Ke$ha in 2010. Does pop still rule the roost? Find out now at Last.fm.

Last.fm also count down the biggest New Discoveries of the year too. These are the artists who received their first ever plays from Last.fm listeners during 2011, making it a chart full of underground icons, viral sensations and quirky soundtrack stars.

That list is topped by Youth Lagoon, the project of Boise, ID native Trevor Powers. His dream-like album shot up the Hype Chart in autumn, and appeared to become a fixture throughout the winter for many listeners.

But up until the last minute it looked as if he’d be beaten by none other than Rebecca Black. The “Friday” singer was number one on the chart right up until December, as the huge wave of attention focused on the internet star started to die down.

Further down the list video game Portal makes an appearance – The Aperture Science Psychoacoustics Laboratory made it to number 7 on the chart – while former Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher slips in at number three. You can catch his interview with the Last.fm Presents team here.

From Your Garage To GRAMMY Live! (Contest)

CBS.com is giving one lucky band a chance to play GRAMMY Live in L.A. during music’s biggest week! Know a band that deserves a shot?

From December 2011 through January 2nd, 2012, bands can go to http://CBS.com/band to upload a video, which can be voted on by music fans from around the world.

Submissions will be initially divided into the following regions: Pacific, Mountain, Midwest, Middle Atlantic, New England, South Atlantic and South. The voting will begin on Jan. 3, 2012 and close Jan. 16, 2012.

From the uploaded bands, a finalist will be picked from each region for the second round of voting, which will start Jan. 17, 2012 and close Jan. 23, 2012. A final winner will be chosen on Jan. 24, 2012.

Beach Boys Reunion Falls Apart (For Now)

Last night, there was talk of a big reunion that was to take place at the GRAMMY nominations concert. It never happened. So who was it supposed to be?

Sources tell the LA Times that it was supposed to be The Beach Boys. They were to announce their first performance back together would be at this year’s GRAMMY Awards on February 12, 2012. But apparently things “fell apart” in the last 48 hours.

Will they still get back together? There’s talk of a 50th anniversary reunion tour next summer, but it looks as if the band members still aren’t on the same page. But… wouldn’t it be nice?
